Recycling Right: A User-Centered Approach to Education and Behavioral Changes

About

Wish-cycling, the act of recycling non-recyclable items with good intentions, is a widespread issue that undermines the effectiveness of recycling programs. Studies reveal that a significant portion of recycled materials never make it through the process. This project dives into the root causes of recycling misinformation and explores how design and technology can drive social change, making recycling more effective and accessible for everyone.

Research & Discovery
  • User Research: Methods used (e.g., interviews, surveys, personas).

  • Key Insights: Findings from research.

  • User Personas: Profiles of target users.

  • Research Planning:

  • Goals & Objectives: What you aimed to learn.

  • Methodologies: Techniques used (e.g., ethnography, A/B testing, competitive analysis).

  • Data Collection:

  • Recruitment: How participants were selected.

  • Research Activities: Detailed descriptions of how data was collected (e.g., interviews, observations).

  • Analysis & Synthesis:

  • Key Insights: Main findings from the research.

  • Personas & Journey Maps: Summarized user profiles and experiences.

  • Themes & Patterns: Common behaviors or pain points identified.

  • Recommendations & Outcomes:

  • Actionable Insights: How the findings informed design decisions.

  • Impact: How the research influenced the project or product.

  • Reflection: What you learned and how you would approach it differently in the future.

Design Process
  • Wireframes: Low-fidelity sketches and early concepts.

  • Prototyping: Mid- to high-fidelity prototypes.

  • Design Iterations: Evolution of designs based on feedback.

  • User Testing: Methods and results of usability testing.

  • Final Designs: High-fidelity screens and interactions.

  • Design System: Any reusable components, guidelines, or patterns developed.

Outcome and Impact
  • Results: How the design solved the problem (e.g., metrics, user feedback).

  • Reflection: What you learned and how you might improve the process.
